I hope everyone made it to my new personal ‘blog page @ RTOMedia.com/ryan
Ask the Recruiter goes interactive
A great site gets better (I wish it was mine)
Joe Grimm — the Detroit Free Press’ recruiting and development editor — had already developed a definitive journalism resource site at Jobspage. Are you ready for the blog?
Just looking through the site briefly, it looks like Grimm has been putting some of the best of his “Ask the Recruiter” content into a daily Q and A with fresh questions. It looks like some really good stuff for those out there in “Get-a-job Land” (of which I am a expatriot of sorts).
New beginnings
New beginnings
After mulling it over for a while, I’ve registered my new domain name. Better add this to your bookmarks – RTOMedia.com. Right now it links to this page, but I’m going to move this blog to a “personal” sub-domain leaving the primary site for my “professional” image. (and we know how slim the line between the two really is).
Stay tuned for some radical changes.
Goodbye, Friend
Goodbye
Well, today was the last day in Houghton for my best friend Olivia. She’s off to bigger and better things down in Holland, Mich. I most certainly wish her the best of luck.
I will of course miss sharing meals with her, much like at Nutini’s in Hancock. Olivia is pictured in the restaurant about two weeks ago after a very filling meal.
While Olivia is off on her grand new adventure, there’s a strong wind of change coming at work. More later.
Good bye, sweet expanded cable
Good bye, sweet expanded cable
Tomorrow, I’m downgrading my cable service to its basic service and fastest cable Internet. I used to have everything (all the movie stations, expanded stations and digital) for a “low, low price.”
I guess I’m kinda moping about it — I only watch a handful of shows (up to a dozen inconsistently) beyond the basic tier. With the new plan, I’ll save about $60/mo.
The basic tier of 29 channels isn’t that bad (although there’s a dozen filler stations I’ll never watch). I guess I feel bad about the options I’m missing and the good cable shows I won’t get to see.
Am I making too much of a to do?
Same show, different time…
My new radio show will air 7-10 a.m. Saturdays on WMTU. It’s basically the same format as the two-hour version but it will be called sonardome + because there so much more.
Of course, everyone is free to listen in and comment.

Just a late-night chuckler. I’ll let them know about it tomorrow (if no one else has).
It’s sad…The show must go on
Although I’m tired as all heck, it’s kinda disappointing that the radio station hasn’t been trasmitting for a week and a half. WMTU went down for Thanksgiving break and there was a fault when they were trying to bring the station back online.
Although the station is supposed to be up later today (Thursday), that means I’ve missed two shows so far. There’s only one more week before finals and that would be all until the next year.
Heavens
Stop the madness
One week — 488 SPAM e-mails. This amount of junk mail is starting to get ridiculous because I have to spend 15 minutes every week going through my spam folder to make sure that I don’t have any important messages through all that desperate chaff. I’d rant more, but you’ve heard it all before.
The thing that’s scary is this do-not-spam list and law that’s crusing for approval in Congress. The main concern is that it legitimizes spam if it meets certain guidelines. I guess it’s not that bad — as long as clearly labeled mass-mailings that be easily filtered into my trash can.
Oh well, back to work.
Live on air
Talk to me
I’m current at the studios of WMTU. I’m doing a very special (mostly) jazz show as a substitute for someone who couldn’t make it today. I like doing a radio show, but I sure wish people would call in or something. I get very little feedback with my programme and it’s irksome. Eh.
